We should all be social distancing at the moment.
Staying indoors and limiting your contact with other people is by far the most effective way to stem the spread of the coronavirus.
I’ve been holed up in my flat for two weeks now, and while I know it’s the right thing to do, it also gets a little lonely and boring if you don’t take some necessary steps to make contact with the outside world.
A couple of apps and extensions have popped up that use technology to bring people closer together. A new Google Chrome extension makes it easy for you to enjoy an online movie evening with your friends.
Or, if you run out of movies to watch, there’s always Houseparty, an app that allows users to chat via video link and hold a virtual games night.
While you’re watching that movie or winning at whatever game you’ve got going on, you might want to enjoy a cold beer or a glass of wine with your friends.
Unfortunately, going to the bottle store is a bit difficult these days. For one thing, leaving the house is not ideal, and for another, new regulations are limiting the sale of alcohol past 6PM.
Never fear, the internet has you covered there, too.
If you’re looking to introduce a little bottled sunshine and vitality into your virtual hangouts, you can’t go wrong with Sol Beer.
It’s a light-tasting Mexican brew that will bring a little summer into your home.
We used Sol to test out some of the best booze delivery websites and apps in South Africa, so that you can have your beer and drink it too without the hassle of going outside.
Check it out:
WEBSITES
You can order a six-pack of Sol Beer for R95, or a case for R349,99 online through the Pick n Pay website. Once you’ve created an account, you place your order, select a convenient time for delivery, and pay online. Simple.
A case of Sol will cost you R329 on Takealot. The order is also eligible for cash on delivery, making things a little easier for those who would prefer to skip the online payment method.
For the even lower price of R289, you can snap up a case of Sol, at Makro, and have it delivered to your door. If you have some eBucks tucked away for a rainy day, this might not be a bad time to use them.
APPS
OneCart is your all-in-one food and booze delivery service. You can order groceries from Pick n Pay, Woolworths and Food Lovers Market, get your immune boosters like Flugon from Clicks, and a six-pack of Sol Beer for only R94,99. I tried out the app this weekend and my groceries were delivered within a day.
Unfortunately, BOTTLES doesn’t stock Sol, but it’s still a cool app that will deliver your drink of choice to your door within an hour. You can stock up on Cape Town Gin for R331,99 a bottle, or for those cooler evenings, treat yourself to a bottle of Rupert Wines Optima for R251.
We’re all going to need to let our hair down once all of this over.
For now, stay happy, healthy, and home.
