We’ve heard some pretty outlandish conspiracy theories in our time but this one takes the cake.

Oprah Winfrey, now recovered from her awkward on stage tumble, took to Twitter this week to dispel some pretty wild stories.

Rumours were circulating that Oprah’s home was raided and she was arrested along with other celebrities, all for dubious activities involving sex trafficking.

Yeah, that doesn’t sound like the Oprah we know.

“Oprah appears to be the latest celebrity victim of QAnon, a group made up of a number of individuals operating independently online, who espouse outrageous conspiracy theories that they post on every single social media platform.”

Oprah reached out to fans about the conspiracy, assuring everyone that she was safe at home:

The world has seen many celebrities maintaining their composure and offering words of comfort during this uncertain time, with Stephen Colbert reiterating Oprah’s call for social distancing and international musicians offering solace with live music shows streamed from their homes.

The same conspiracy group that had Oprah in their crosshairs this week was faced with some serious consequences for their online activity in 2017, when an armed man opened fire on patrons at a pizzeria in Washington.

Known as ‘pizzagate’, the incident luckily ended with no fatalities and the North Carolina shooter is currently serving a four-year prison sentence.

It seems like a short time for a man toting an assault rifle in a public place but okay, America.

The reason for his outburst?

“He claimed he was attempting to find and rescue child sex slaves whom he believed were being held at the restaurant — a belief allegedly based on his reading of a false story circulating online that connected Hillary Clinton’s campaign adviser to the pizzeria through coded messages in his leaked emails.”

That’s a lot to take in.
