You’d think that South Africans would have learned a thing or two about throwing around the k-word.

Then again, Vicki Momberg has managed to learn virtually nothing from her own experiences, and we know what happened to Adam Catzavelos, so that might be a stretch.

Let me spell it out for you – if you use language like the language in the headline above, there will probably be consequences, because you’re a terrible person.

Take for example this incident, which took place in Johannesburg, where a mother called a black woman a “k-word bitch” after she bumped into her and her three-year-old daughter at a shop in Kempton Park, reports TimesLIVE.

Marie Basson, 41, also told Nomsa Masuku she had a “fat ass” and should go to the gym, according to testimony before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court.

This happened four years ago, and since then Basson has been doing her best to avoid a conviction, reports BusinessLIVE:

Now Marie Basson is headed to jail, after failing in her bid to appeal her six-month jail term for crimen injuria, the crime of unlawfully and intentionally injuring, insulting or impairing the dignity of another person.

…Crucially, Basson refused to admit or apologise for the language she was convicted of using against Nomsa Masuku at the Birch Acres Pick n Pay in Kempton Park on October 25 2016.

A note to racists everywhere – digging in your heels and refusing to apologise for your behaviour doesn’t do you any favours.

Johannesburg high court  judges Greg Wright and Thifhelimbilu Mudau found that the six-month sentence imposed on her was not excessive.

The dismissal of Basson’s appeal comes after Mudau in 2019 rejected Momberg’s attempt to challenge her crimen injuria conviction and two-year sentence for repeatedly referring to a black police officer as the k-word following a smash-and-grab incident.

In his ruling, Mudau said Momberg was “quite evidently unremorseful in her conduct” and added that there was “no justifiable reason” to interfere with the sentence imposed on her.

How many more people need to go to jail before folks stop using racists slurs?

Seriously, just stop now.
