Amazon’s tablet is coming soon. Very soon, according to some of the rumours doing the rounds. We could even see the new device in the next few weeks. Supposedly, it will be in the seven-inch region, run a tweaked version of Android and be quite affordable too. But what’s going to make it special, and better than any Google attempt?
The market is flooded with dozens of tablets, some good and some not so good. So why are the experts predicting that Amazon’s version might actually give iPad a run for its money?
The reasons are simple: Amazon, like Apple, is a channel that provides masses of content, and two, it already has an efficient way for you to buy content from it.
There’s a third reason, actually, and that’s the fact that it will run Google’s Android, but this will be tweaked to suit Amazon’s needs, because, well, they have the money to do that sort of thing.
The crucial factor I hear you point out though is that Android apps are generally of poor quality in comparison to Apple’s. And there’s another problem there too – Android apps lack a simple payment mechanism.
Ah, and the penny drops. That’s exactly where Amazon stands a chance: Google has almost no relationship in financial terms with the average person.
Amazon does. Millions of them, all over the world.
Amazon isn’t quite as big as Apple in respect of transactional numbers, but for people in North America and Europe, it’s a company they trust with their details.
Amazon is also looking at building onto its own app store, so, basically, app developers would want to be associated with a brand such as Amazon for that exact reason. Coincidentally, Amazon also has a music and movie service too.
And, well, if you can’t find something digital you need, you could always just buy it direct from Amazon.
All that Kindle testing over the last few years hasn’t been for nothing.
