How About This Horrific Own Goal From The French League? [Video]

Defending against the attacking powerhouse that is PSG is tough at the best of times, but it doesn't help when you belt the ball into your own net.

Every season, Paris Saint-Germain stroll to the Ligue 1 title, thanks in large part to the money splashed by the club’s owners, Oryx Qatar Sports Investments (QSi), chaired by Nasser Al Khelaïfi.

That’s how you secure the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappé, even if both seem to be growing disillusioned with the lack of challenge presented in the league.

Their march to the 2019/2020 title is basically on the home stretch, with a 12-point lead and 14 matches left to play.

Sunday brought with it another comfortable win, 4-2 over Lyon, and the match also featured an own goal that Planet Football says “may just be the greatest of all time”.

I don’t know if I would go that far, but it is worth watching Fernando Marcal rocket the ball into his own net after a cracking one-two with PSG’s Julian Draxler.

Not an attacker within striking distance, and straight into the roof of the net:

In case that tweet gets yanked, here’s another version:

If neither of those work, you can watch the own goal here.

The initial clearance was poor, the cutback was poor, and the finish was just the cherry on top.

Reminds me of that shocker in the first 20 seconds of last year’s PSL match between Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu.

While we’re talking about own goals, we should also mention Adrian Mariappa’s cracker against Watford on Saturday, which you can see from the 1:15 mark:

Again, nobody near him.

Defending really can be a thankless task.
