Making the decision to have children shouldn’t be taken lightly.
After all, that decision comes with roughly two decades of financial costs to consider, not least of which is ensuring that your child gets a decent education.
Parents will go to great lengths to try and make this happen, often putting their kids on waiting lists for primary schools before they can speak, and then high school before they’ve reached double digits in age.
In fact, it’s so competitive out there, that while the middle-high-end property market generally suffered last year, it remained on track and better than ever in school districts with excellent schools.
Here’s Property24:
“Owing to entrance requirements based on proximity, many buyers with young families choose a suburb purely based on the schooling district they want to be in and will refuse to look at any properties that lie outside of these areas. For this reason, those who are looking for properties purely based upon investment value ought to consider properties within one of the catchment areas of a reputable schooling district as the demand for these properties will always exist as long as the school maintains its reputation,” says Adrian Goslett, Regional Director and CEO of RE/MAX of Southern Africa.
Frikkie van Eeden, also from RE/MAX, confirmed that “parents will often prioritise proximity to a good school above almost all their own wants and needs”.
In Johannesburg, Upper Houghton and Houghton Estate are doing well, partly because they’re close to the commercial hubs of Johannesburg, but also because of the surrounding schools such as King Edward VII and St John’s College.
In the Western Cape, houses in Claremont and Rondebosch are sought after because of their proximity to Herschel, Bishops, Rondebosch, amongst others.
If you’re lucky enough to land a property in one of these areas, you could be looking at paying upwards of R3 million for a home, and let’s face it, not everyone can afford that on top of the incredibly high school fees that you’ll pay at a private school.
Property aside, not everyone can afford those incredibly high school fees, either. This leaves parents, who want to give their children a decent education, but who aren’t wealthy enough, at a real disadvantage.
Fortunately, technology has made it possible for your child to get an excellent education at a fraction of the cost of a private school, without you having to move suburbs.
The Valenture Institute is a global online private high school that offers an internationally recognised curriculum, which gives South African learners a highly engaging and socially rich learning experience.
Your child can study, under the guidance of expert tutors and mentors, from the comfort of your home – wherever your home may be.
For parents seeking more information, visit the Valenture Institute’s website and download their info pack. Once you’ve filled out your email address, and phone number, the Institute will forward you a comprehensive PDF of everything that they offer.
Following that, one of their admissions counsellors will give you a call to answer any and all of your questions.
The Institute is accepting applications for this year until February, 14, 2020.
Where you live shouldn’t affect your child’s education, and now, it doesn’t have to.
