We may never know exactly what happened in the early hours of the morning before Tova Noel and Michael Thomas found Jeffrey Epstein’s body in his cell.
Clearly, those two guards didn’t do their jobs, which is why they were arrested and charged with conspiracy and filing false records.
One thing we do know – if you believe former fellow prisoner, Bill Mersey – is that Epstein was terrified of life behind bars.
As a result of this, the Daily Beast reports that Mersey “has no doubt the perverted financier killed himself”:
[Mersey said] Epstein was terrified of life behind bars and inquired about enlisting a black inmate to protect him in jail.
“He didn’t strike me as suicidal but sometimes you could see it in his eyes, ‘Oh my God, I’m never getting out of here.’ He would kind of drift off and I would try to bring him back,” Mersey, who was released from prison last month, told the British tabloid…
Epstein wasn’t fearful of prison because he was an accused molester and rapist, Mersey claimed; Instead, Epstein was terrified of being targeted over his wealth. “I think he was more afraid because he was a rich man. He was afraid for his physical safety, he thought he was going to get his ass kicked,” Mersey said.
In case you have any doubts about where Mersey stands on the issue, let’s make it clear:
Mersey rejects conspiracy theories surrounding Epstein’s death—including that he was snuffed out by more powerful people in order to keep dirt about them secret. “There would have to be so many people in on the conspiracy it would be really difficult to orchestrate,” Mersey claimed.
“I am 99.999 percent that he committed suicide,” he added. “I wasn’t there to see it so I can’t be 100 percent, but I wouldn’t bet 2 cents against $1 million that somebody did him. He did himself.”
Mersey says he spent more than 24 hours alone with Epstein chatting, during which time the convicted paedophile began to confide in him. That’s not surprising when you consider that Mersey was in jail for under-reporting income from the escort advertising website he ran.
They would have had plenty to talk about.
Epstein was largely mum on Prince Andrew and those accusations, but did tell a few stories about American presidents past and present.
There was one about Trump back in the day, who, when asked what “white trash” meant, said, “it’s me without money”.
Epstein also told Mersey about something Bill Clinton said:
“[Epstein] said he was walking down the street in a Chinese city with him and a really beautiful Asian girl walked by. [Clinton] turned to him and said, ‘That woman makes my dick harder than Chinese arithmetic.’”
Completely plausible, because you know when these guys got together, it was all ‘locker room talk’.
Mersey says that the last time he saw Epstein, he looked to be in a dark place:
“The last time I saw him, he was eating his dinner sitting on the floor, with his food between his legs. I asked him what he was doing and he said, ‘It’s easier this way.’ He had just kind of spiraled down to the floor. I thought that’s a long way down from a $77 million mansion to eating prison food sitting on a stone floor,” Mersey claimed.
On the morning that Epstein’s body was found, a prisoner in a nearby cell, known simply as ‘Brown’, said that he heard Epstein tearing up sheets, and he told Mersey that it was certainly a suicide.
Still, none of this will stop the conspiracy theories that plot out how and why Epstein was murdered, and conjecture will continue for many years to come.
