Two months ago, 18-year-old UCT student Mhleli Cebo Mbatha was stabbed and killed near Clifton Third Beach.
On Saturday, another teen was killed on Victoria Road – the road above all of Clifton’s beaches, after a matric beach party.
The 16-year-old boy, from Langa, was stabbed in the chest.
According to News24, at about 10:45PM on Saturday night, members of law enforcement saw the victim with a stab wound.
The teen boy received medical attention but died on the scene due to his injuries.
“Police are following up on leads in order to bring the perpetrators to book,” spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said
A joint operations centre had been put in place to monitor a film event that happened the same night, but a number of matriculants had headed to the beach to celebrate the end of exams. The boy was treated by the medics who were there for the film event.
Ward councillor Nicola Jowell has called for more deployment of police in the Camps Bay beach area going into the festive season.
Former Councillor at the City of Cape Town, Jacques Weber, called the incident “unacceptable” and a sign that that the City needs “urgent intervention in terms of policing”.
Police are investigating and the circumstances surrounding the murder are as yet unknown.
