If you’re too young to have had your heartbroken by the 1982 Steven Spielberg classic, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, here’s a quick plot synopsis.
The film tells the story of Elliott (Henry Thomas), a boy who befriends an extraterrestrial, dubbed “E.T.”, who is stranded on Earth. Elliott and his siblings help E.T. return to his home planet, while attempting to keep him hidden from the government.
The final scene, when E.T. goes home, had children (and some adults) wailing in cinemas worldwide.
I’m getting sad just thinking about it.
Then I discovered Spielberg’s approved Christmas advert for Xfinity reunites E.T. and Elliott (played again by Thomas), and all was right in the world again.
Here’s The New York Post:
The four-minute flick titled “A Holiday Reunion” — which is also an ad campaign for Xfinity — shows E.T. coming back to Earth to reconnect with a now-grown-up Elliott.
The lovable creature surprises Elliott’s snowball-tossing son and daughter, who resemble Thomas and Drew Barrymore, who played his sister Gertie in the flick.
Prepare to feel things:
I have so much love for that alien.
If that wasn’t enough to give you the warm and fuzzies, retailer John Lewis released a spectacular advert starring Edgar the Dragon, who really wants to play in the snow, but can’t quite get it right.
Enough now. I have a day to get through.
