Today is the last day before final public voting for neighbourhoods three and four. That means you can still submit names, which will be shortlisted by the panel, for the final vote. Neighbourhood number three is a part of the greater Green Point region and includes the likes of Beluga and Trinity. The ‘hood’ has long needed a name as people get confused between Green Point, de Waterkant, Cape Quarter and “the area next to the traffic department!”
The fourth neighbourhood up for the final name submission process is a part of the greater Gardens area, but contains specifically the Company Gardens, Parliament, The Taj hotel and a portion of Adderley Street.
Neighbourhoods have different meanings and conjure up different emotions for each person, so luckily the NameYourHood website allows you to literally walk through each neighbourhood, using Google Street View technology.
So go and have a look around – browse each neighbourhood and think of a name that best describes that chunk of Cape Town. You are also able to support any of the names already suggested – which will be taken into account when the submitted names get shortlisted by the Name Your Hood panel!
