If you’re anything like me, you spent a great deal of the morning of September 4 staring at the Computicket website on your computer screen.
Sadly, tickets for the Match in Africa 6 showdown between Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal sold out within a matter of minutes, and it seemed like all hope was lost.
Then, almost immediately, attention turned to ticket resale site Viagogo, which had a number of tickets available at grossly inflated prices.
We tried to warn you on the day, but some South Africans remain desperate to see these superstars in action. Enter Carte Blanche:
Have you ever tried to buy a ticket for your favourite music concert or a major sports match, only for the event to be sold out in minutes? From Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’s “Match in Africa” stadium show-down to the local and highly sought-after Afrikaans is Groot music festival – how are ticket resellers making big bucks while ordinary fans are left to fork out more than what the original ticket is worth. Flaws in the system or a money-making scam?
I’ll let you watch without giving too much away:
Sounds like it’s best to avoid Viagogo, then.
In the wake of the tickets to the Roger versus Rafa match selling out so quickly, Janine Händel, the CEO of the Roger Federer Foundation, did say that organisers are considering adding more grandstands.
More tickets would then become available, but ensure that you’re buying them through the correct channels to ensure you don’t appear on the Carte Blanche follow-up.
