For most people, veganism is a lifestyle choice that they make for a number of reasons ranging from weight-loss goals to a political stance on the effect that the meat industry has on the environment.
That’s an entirely rational choice, and although we often poke fun at vegans, fair enough.
For others, though, veganism really is an exercise in virtue signalling, which is what many have accused two vegans of doing recently.
2015’s MasterChef winner Simon Wood (pictured above) and the vegans in question were involved in a nasty social media spat after the latter complained about the former’s restaurant, WOOD.
Take it away, Business Insider:
On Friday, diners Richard McCormick and Jake Norris both left reviews of WOOD Manchester on the restaurant group’s Facebook page.
In his post, McCormick referred to Wood’s attitude regarding vegan food as “embarrassing” and “aggressive.”
Wood responded from his personal Facebook account, writing: “Sorry for your disappointment d—.”
“Being called a d— by a chef is a little bit unprofessional,” McCormick shot back.
That’s ‘d—‘ as in ‘dick’, by the way.
Earlier that day, another vegan, Jake Norris also took a jibe at Wood.
As you can see Wood has zero f**** to give when it comes to pleasing the vegan community.
He also makes a valid point – it’s his restaurant, and he can do what he wants.
The world would be a better place if we all cut down on our meat consumption, but it would also be a better place if we didn’t expect everyone to cater to exactly what we wanted all the time.
Different strokes, different folks.
