At this stage, if you’re not concerned about climate change, you probably never will be until it’s far too late.
That, or you’re playing dumb in order to try and secure reelection over in America.
Leonardo DiCaprio has never turned a blind eye, and in 2016, he was involved with Before the Flood, the Nat Geo doccie that followed the Oscar-winning actor as he interviewed people from all walks of life about the crisis.
Now he’s back, this time as a producer, for Ice on Fire, which premiered earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival, and is now available to South African viewers exclusively on Showmax.
Here’s what Leo had to say about the project:
My partners and I made Ice On Fire to give a voice to the scientists and researchers who work tirelessly every day on the front lines of climate change.
We wanted to make a film that depicts the beauty of our planet while highlighting much-needed solutions across renewable energy and carbon sequestration. This film does more than show what is at stake if we continue on a course of inaction and complacency – it shows how, with the help of dedicated scientists, we can all fight back. I hope audiences will be inspired to take action to protect our beautiful planet.
With sweeping cinematography of a world worth saving, Ice On Fire was filmed in nine countries across the globe, including America, Costa Rica, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland.
Directed by Leila Conners, who also made The 11th Hour with DiCaprio, Ice On Fire emphasises the importance of an immediate, two-pronged approach to reversing the crisis.
Here’s the trailer:
As the Amazon burns, and Brazil’s president bickers with other foreign leaders in a pissing contest, we are in need of some positivity, and it’s refreshing to see some optimism in the doccie.
For example, Ice On Fire visits the following places:
In other words, people who are taking action.
