For Dutchman Jim Halfens, wasting time on lengthy divorce proceedings is simply not what life’s all about.  He recently opened a hotel in Amsterdam that caters for couples looking for a speedy divorce by offering a convenient weekend marriage dissolution package.

The hotel offers the services of a notary public, a lawyer for each party, a psychologist, an estate agent to handle property issues and even child care.  The high speed divorce package includes all costs attached to the dissolution of a marriage, including legal fees and accommodation for the weekend for around $3 500 or R25,000.

Only couples married under the law of the Netherlands can currently take advantage of this offer, but Halfens says there’s already been plenty of international interest in the hotel’s divorce package.

Ever the optimist, Jim, 32 – who is unmarried – points out that single people never have to worry about getting a divorce.
