When new footage emerged, showing Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein partying together in 1992, American news outlets went into a frenzy.
The story, and footage, has been everywhere, but what does it really prove?
We know Trump is a serial liar, and has lied to distance himself from Epstein since he was convicted of paedophilia back in 2007.
I know it’s a cartoon, but this gives you a pretty good overview of Trump’s (and Bill Clinton’s) cosy relationship with Epstein.
Before we go much further, let’s look at the footage from 1992. You’re going to want to start watching from the three-minute mark:
So, he’s a creepy, womanising, lying misogynist, and always has been – not exactly breaking news.
I mean, at least 18 women have accused him of sexual assault.
Anyway, Vanity Fair pointed out a number of interesting features about the footage:
What catches your attention first is the 1992 of it all. The video that shows Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein partying at Mar-a-Lago, which surfaced today from NBC News archives, starts with the perfect era-appropriate tunes. “Rhythm Is a Dancer” by Snap! was making its rise up the charts, while the Romantics’ “What I Like About You” would have seemed like a delightful throwback…
There are the women—cheerleaders for the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins—with their soda-can bangs, invited into what Trump calls, on camera, his “party palace.” Their perms are breezily relaxed compared to the tight curls favored a few years earlier. Their hot pants are patterned, sometimes neon—lime green in the case of the woman whom Trump grabs by the waist and pats on the behind. There’s a flicker of surprise on her face…
The fashion, the music, the casual groping—it does all make 1992 seem a world away, all of this happening on-camera and so un-newsworthy it’s been utterly forgotten. But even with Epstein behind bars, thus far denied bail, and facing up to 45 years in prison, the loucheness and disrespect on display in this video never went away, of course.
It was right there when Trump got on that Access Hollywood bus with Billy Bush in 2005.
Exactly.
If ‘grab ’em by the pussy’ didn’t stop Trump supporters in their tracks (Evangelicals and all), a video from 1992 of him partying with a later-to-be convicted paedophile won’t even register as a blip on their radars.
I mean, they openly chant ‘send her back’ about an American citizen democratically elected to serve the people of Minnesota:
This is America now.
