Unfortunately, we cannot show you the highlights from the UFC 239 fight between Jorge Masvidal and Ben Askren.
We can show you the entire fight, though, which lasted all of five seconds, and is the fastest knockout in UFC history.
The record had previously been held by Duane Ludwig at six seconds, when he defeated Jonathan Goulet way back in 2006.
There had been plenty of buzz ahead of the lightweight division feature fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night (Sunday morning in South Africa), with Masvidal promising brutality.
It didn’t take long for him to come good on that promise. Observe, a flying knee to the skull:
OMG
The fastest UFC knockout in history by the GAMEBRED #JorgeMasvidal— Ibrahim Al-Juhani (@JuhaniIbrahim) July 7, 2019
That’s terrifying.
In the slow-motion replay, you can really see the force of the knock:
After the fight, Masvidal was in fine spirits:
Nothing like kneeing a man in the skull and then thanking God Almighty.
More of his comments via HYPEBEAST:
The fighter also addressed the haters who thought the hits following his flying knee attack was unnecessary, to which he responded “They were super necessary, why were they not necessary? The referee hadn’t pulled me off. My job is to hit someone until the referee pulls me off.” He concluded with, “To those people, I would say maybe don’t watch MMA, go back to soccer.”
I’ll refrain from telling him it’s actually football.
Askren has been cleared of any significant damage, although I’m sure his pride is more than dented. He was pretty candid about his defeat on Twitter:
Correct.
Thanks, Basil
