They brought out the Pet Shop Boys and Johnny Marr from the Smiths, which adds a fair amount of musical pageantry.
They also brought out comedian Jimmy Carr during the celebratory encore, “pretending to be a roadie, sweeping up confetti and testing the mics for no apparent reason other than it seemed like fun”.

The set actually ended with Mr. Brightside, but we’ll pop it here first. Performing the song helped put the ghosts of their 2007 Glastonbury performance behind them, where poor sound marred their headline slot and ruined their most famous crowd-pleaser.
