If someone asked you what unites millions of people, you’d be tempted to think up something to do with world politics or the advancement of humanity, and you’d be wrong.
What unites people today is Jessica Simpson’s foot.
That’s one of the great unifiers, anyway. Others include grown men pretending to be babies, and eggs.
We know this because of Instagram. No longer just an overly-stocked gallery of barista-perfected coffees, the social media platform has become a rampant marketing tool for royalty, celebrities and influencers.
Every day an average of 95 million posts are made, and according to Mashable, these are five of the most popular of 2019 so far, having collected thousands, if not millions of ‘likes’.
In no particular order:
The World Record Egg
Earlier this year the World Record Egg became the most liked Instagram photo of all time. It currently has over 53 million ‘likes’. It was also revealed that there was more to the egg than meets the eye. More on that here.
Jessica Simpson’s foot
What do you do when your foot is swollen? Go to a doctor? Nope – you post about it on Instagram. Simpson wanted remedies. 38 000 comments later, she had a few options. Later, she posted foot updates, but we are moving along.
John Legend as “Johnny” the baby
John Legend pretended to be a baby. His wife Chrissy Teigen posted it on Instagram. The world loved it.
The Kardashian spawn
Kim’s daughter Chicago, Khloe’s daughter True, and Kylie’s daughter Stormi. That’s all.
Holes in Taylor Swift’s fence
People tried to use this picture to predict Tay-Tay’s next album.
How did we get this far as a species?
