Navin Vatsa got an honourable mention in the National Geographic Travel Photographer of the Year competition for that shot above, captured during sunrise along the banks of the Yamuna River in Delhi, India.

His is just one of the thousands of photos entered into the competition this year, in three different categories: Nature, Cities and People.

Weimin Chu won the Grand Prize (and also took first place in the Cities category) for his stunning image “Greenlandic Winter” (below), depicting the colourful fishing village of Upernavik, in northwestern Greenland, reports CNN.

“I love the contrast and mood of this scene,” Chu says of the stand out image.

“Historically, Greenlandic buildings were painted different colors to indicate different functions, from red storefronts to blue fishermen’s homes — a useful distinction when the landscape is blanketed in snow.

The freelance photographer received a $7,500 prize as well as a post on National Geographic Travel’s Instagram account, @natgeotravel, while Blazquez Haik and Li will receive $2,500 respectively.

There were nine winners in total, three in each category, as well as two honourable mentions.

2nd Place, People: Yoshiki Fujiwara – photo taken at a public park at Choi Hung House in Hong Kong.

3rd Place, People: José Antonio Zamora – the ceremony of the purification of animals in Avila.

Nature, Honorable Mention: Jonas Schäfer – a herd of ibexes in Switzerland’s Bernese Oberland.

Some real stunners in there that make you want to pack a bag and bugger off.
