As the evenings get colder, my will to leave my apartment slowly dies. Instead, I plan on spending most of the weekend making good food and watching some quality TV.
Let the R&R begin.
Finding the perfect show to binge watch can be tricky, though, and nobody wants to spend precious chill time trolling the internet for something decent.
Which is why you should play it safe and go for something award-winning.
Here are two top-notch series to take in this weekend:
Golden Globe winner Escape at Dannemora is a seven-part series based on a stranger-than-fiction prison break in upstate New York in the summer of 2015, which spawned a state-wide manhunt for two convicted murderers.
They were aided in their escape by a female prison employee who carried on months-long affairs with both men, despite being married to another prison employee.
Patricia Arquette won the 2019 Golden Globe, the Screen Actors Guild award, and the Critics’ Choice prize for her lead performance as Tilly Mitchell, a working-class wife and mother who supervises the prison tailor shop. She’s the employee who carries on the aforementioned scandalous affairs with Benicio del Toro and Paul Dano, who play her lovers.
At the 2019 American Film Institute Awards, Barry was named TV Program Of The Year, after topping Best of 2018 year-end lists in the likes of The New York Times and The Washington Post.
This year, Barry has also taken home prizes from the likes of The Director’s Guild of America, The Writer’s Guild of America, and The Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards.
Season two is now also streaming on Showmax.
Bill Hader and Henry Winkler reprise their Emmy-winning and Golden Globe-nominated roles in HBO’s killer comedy series about a depressed war vet-turned-hitman, who finds passion and romance in a local acting class while on a job in Hollywood.
You can catch these series, as well as loads of quality local and international content, on Showmax, which is free for DStv Premium subscribers.
