Should Meghan Be Punting Her Friend’s Businesses On The Royal Instagram Account?

Meghan and Harry unfollowed every account, including Kensington Palace, so they could highlight other accounts, some of which belong to friends.

Meghan and Harry decided to break with the formalities of Royal social media and start their own Instagram account, @SussexRoyal.

That’s all good for the most part – we get a glimpse into some of the work that they do, and more importantly, we get to look at baby Archie’s feet.

They also unfollowed all accounts, including Kensington Palace, so as to highlight their various causes and charities.

However, one of the first accounts chosen as promoting good mental health was The Class, run by Taryn Toomey, who was one of the guests at Meghan’s baby shower in New York, reports Metro.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month in the US and May 13-19 is Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK. To pay tribute to all of the incredible work people across the globe are doing in this space, we are hoping to shine a light on several Instagram accounts that promote mental well-being, mental fitness, body positivity, self-care, and the importance of human connection – to not just hear each other, but to listen. There are countless organisations doing amazing work for mental health – please consider the accounts we’ve highlighted as a small snapshot of this global support network. We are all in this together. We invite you to explore the extraordinary stories of strength, and the commitment to kindness as seen in the above accounts. Each month we will honour this same concept and change the accounts we solely follow based on a different theme or cause. Please go to our homepage and click “following” to see each of the select accounts and find out more about their work. Please note: Images shared are from some of the handles we are now following

You can see the following image in the post above from The Class:

The Instagram account for The Class links to a website promoting luxury yoga retreats in Mexico and the Caribbean, each costing thousands of pounds, as well as Toomey’s exercise classes in LA and New York.

Sounds very charitable.

The endorsement was criticised by some on social media. One user responded: I generally am a fan of both of them, and many of the highlighted organizations seem worthy. But to use this platform to promote acquaintances FOR PROFIT businesses is pretty appalling.’

In another comment, someone wrote: ‘Don’t be biased. It is a simple way of advertising your friend’s yoga club.’

Responding to the Instagram shout-out, The Class wrote: ‘We ARE all in this together. And it is a great honor @sussexroyal – thank you for sharing, uniting and leading.’

I don’t have a few thousand pounds for a yoga retreat in Mexico, so I’m not really sure how we’re all in this together.

I doubt Toomey needs the cash. Stick to charities.
