Well, MacKenzie isn’t the richest woman in the world now, but she’s come out of the divorce with some spare change.
When news first broke that Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos were getting a divorce, many thought that the split would see MacKenzie surpass L’Oréal heiress Françoise Bettencourt Meyers as Mrs Moneybags.
Bettencourt Meyers can breathe easier, because her title as the world’s richest woman is safe, but MacKenzie isn’t going home hungry.
Here’s the BBC:
…Jeff Bezos, and his wife MacKenzie have agreed a record-breaking divorce settlement worth at least $35bn (£27bn).
Ms Bezos will retain a 4% stake in online retail giant Amazon which her husband of 25 years founded.
She will also give up her interests in the Washington Post newspaper and Mr Bezos’ space travel firm Blue Origin.
The deal dwarfs a previous $3.8bn record set by art dealer Alec Wildenstein and his wife Jocelyn.
$35 billion is a fair chunk of change. MacKenzie is a successful businesswoman and novelist in her own right, but it never hurts to have a few extra zeros in the account.
Because they’re rich and famous, the news warranted a tweet from each respective party, with MacKenzie joining Twitter to fire this off:
#blessed.
Over to Jeff:
#grateful.
Shall we ruin the vibe with what was always bound to happen? Here’s Business Insider with the inevitable ‘creeps on social media’ story:
As you’d imagine, lots of men appear to be interested in the newly single MacKenzie Bezos. Here’s a collection of creepy messages from suitors vying for her attention on Twitter.
All of these tweets are public replies to MacKenzie Bezos’ first tweet about her divorce being finalized.
I don’t have the time or energy to cover even a 10th of those messages, but here’s a start:
Hey Roger (or should I call you @Nuke3dawg?), you might want to get MacKenzie’s name right if you’re after a good time.
Pretty sure she does, and pretty sure they don’t involve Don.
One more:
Ha, that PJ hey…full of jokes.
Don’t do this, fellas – it stinks.
May your divorce be filled with happiness, Jeff and MacKenzie.
