That man above is 81-year-old Harry Macklowe, a New York real estate mogul who seems to be happily in love.
He’s just married Patricia Landeau, who is pictured with him above, and he wants the world to know.
Does he make it Facebook official? Does he post to Instagram? Does he shout it from the rooftops?
No, no, and no – he pays to have a 42-foot-high photo of Patricia Landeau erected on the side of a New York building he owns, in a not so subtle ‘up yours’ to his ex.
Below from Elle:
Macklowe, a real estate developer who built 432 Park Avenue, the tallest residential building in the world, recently emerged from a “contentious 14-week divorce” and remarried last week. To celebrate, he made the subtle gesture of installing his face and his wife’s face on the side of the adjacent Park Avenue Cube using black-and-white photos the size of a T-Rex standing on the tiny shoulders of another T-Rex. Approximately.
When asked to explain his reasoning, Macklowe told the Times, “Since I wasn’t getting married during the summer in the Hamptons, I wasn’t able to hire an airplane with a banner to go up and down the shoreline. I thought: ‘I own a building. Why don’t I just hang a banner from my own building?’”
Ah, yes. Get the angle right and you can see both of their faces at the same time.
This is definitely normal behaviour.
You might be thinking, at this stage, that there’s very little connection between the massive photos and the ex-wife. Think again:
Linda Macklowe was married to Harry for 50 years before a public split in 2016 prompted a rough-and-tumble trial to divvy up their $2 billion fortune. Once again, who amongst us hasn’t been there?
In an interesting and definitely not coincidental twist, Linda was under contract to purchase an apartment in 432 Park Avenue but was permitted to exit the deal by the judge in the case.
A big, giant, middle finger to the ex.
Anybody else getting the feeling that Harry might be a touch bitter?
Turns out his billboard dig could get expensive, with Page Six reporting:
Linda Macklowe, plans to appeal their divorce ruling — and is refusing to sell their $700 million art collection — Page Six has exclusively learned…the move may have inflamed the epic divorce squabble.
A source told us, “The billboard definitely makes this the craziest divorce of all time . . . Linda thinks it is disgusting and so insensitive. She’s always been so low-key. Linda [below] is appealing the divorce judgment, so this could only make her more determined to fight harder.”
A second source added, “Linda’s strategy is to delay. She has filed a notice to appeal the divorce judgment, even going as far as to criticize the judge herself. The truth is Linda doesn’t want to divide and sell any of the art, she wants to keep it all. Harry just wants to move on.”
When reached by phone, Linda declined to comment, stating, “I prefer privacy.”
This isn’t playing out how she’d hoped.
Sounds like being stinking rich brings with it a unique set of problems.
