South Africa’s rising levels of substance abuse have created a gap in the market for rehabilitation centres.
Dr Eugene Allers, a member of the South African Society of Psychiatrists (SASOP), believes that up to 10 million South Africans abuse substances ranging from alcohol to opioids like heroin, codeine, nyaope and whoonga.
Allers works at White River Manor Wellness Centre, which is an executive substance treatment centre located in White River, just north of Nelspruit in Mpumalanga.
Here’s BusinessTech with more from Allers:
…”you don’t find 10 million people in rehabs. There’s a large proportion of people that don’t do anything about it, don’t recognise the problem and continue doing the problem,” said Allers.
The Wellness Centre isn’t for just anyone, though, and provides tailored treatment.
Founded in 2015, the facility treats men and women coping with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders, and utilises a collaborative program that is tailored to each person’s unique needs.
“The recovery process is more successful when the programme is tailored to meet the specific needs of the client. For this reason White River Manor customises individual programmes for client that range from 28 days to 120 days.
The staff, including a team of highly trained nurses, is comprised of people who have specialised in addiction. Clients at the facility can also enjoy a range of activities including golf, horseback riding, adventure sports, Kruger National Park safaris, drumming, jogging, hiking, swimming and rock climbing.
There is also a spa on the grounds that offers a professional beauty experience including massage, facials, manicures and pedicures.
Not your run of the mill rehab centre, and you’re paying for all the extra thrills:
All-inclusive pricing starts at $6,950 (R100,000) for 28 days ($248 per day). This, the group says, is 1/3 the cost of most US luxury centres.
At last that R100 000 price tag comes with goodies included, and clients receive the following:
Sounds rather heavenly.
Let’s take a virtual tour around the premises:
Looks like a great place to detox, provided you have some real financial clout.
If you or someone you know is suffering from addiction, help is at hand here.
