If you’re having a rough day, this should brighten things up a little.
A particularly plump rat from Bensheim, Germany, was trying to take a shortcut through a manhole cover when she got stuck.
According to Live Science, rats can usually squeeze through the smallest of spaces because their bodies are flexible, long and cylindrical, making it possible to inch their way through holes as small as o,6 centimetres.
Their whiskers also help them to measure out a space to see if they’ll fit through it.
The little lady, however, clearly forgot how to rat. We shall call her ‘Fatatouille’.
Lucky for her, her cries for help were answered by nine friendly German firemen who worked together to set her free:
One of the rescuers spoke out about the process:
“She had a lot of winter flab and was stuck fast at her hip — there was no going forward or back,” animal rescuer Michael Sehr told local media…
…Some people questioned why such a large operation was needed to save a single rat…But Sehr responded to these questions by referring to the golden rule. “Even animals that are hated by many deserve respect,” he said.
Bless.
