You remember when I mentioned the 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa and how it was up for auction? You don’t? Come on – remember I was telling you how it would be a good car to snap up if you won the lottery?
You still don’t remember?
That’s weird – have you tried ACTUALLY thinking about it?
Maybe THIS will jog your memory.
Aaah, theeere we go!
To recap:
The 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa (Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien drove this car to victory at Le Mans in 1958, one of ten significant race victories this TR amassed in the 19 races it started between 1958 and 1961) is at this year’s Leggende e Passione auction event at the Ferrari factory in Maranello in May.
The 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa
Ralph Lauren owns two of these beauties, and I would very much like to join the club. They’re expecting it to shatter the $10.89 million record set last year by my dream car (mentioned to you before here) the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder (a la Ferris Bueller)
Ja, so anyway, that auction happened and, as expected, the 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa SHATTERED the previous record.
This, from Wheels24:
A 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa was auctioned off for €9m euros Sunday, setting a new record price for classic cars, reported the Ansa news agency.
The car was auctioned off in the northern Italian city of Maranello.
The racing car, chassis number 0714TR, was one of 34 of the Testa Rossa line, which won acclaim throughout North and South America for a series of victories in auto races.
The winning bid was about 2 million euros higher than the amount paid out last year for a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spider that had been previously owned by actor James Coburn.
The winner of the auction remained unidentified.
Don’t worry, I’ve worked it out for you. In Rands, it comes to R103 million. Or, about $12.3 million.
Fair enough – it’s a bloody nice car.
