We all have that friend who brings their meat-free alternative “sausage” to a braai, and then insists that you try it because “it tastes like the real thing”.
It doesn’t. It never does. Not even close.
Well, enter the Impossible Burger 2.0, which looks like it’s set to change all of that.
The Impossible Burger 2.0 uses a plant-based patty that contains no gluten, animal hormones or antibiotics. It’s also kosher- and halal-certified. Here’s Business Wire:
The new recipe delivers the rich, beefy taste that discerning meat lovers demand — with as much bioavailable iron and high-quality protein as a comparable serving of ground beef from cows.
In addition, the new Impossible Burger has 0 mg cholesterol, 14 grams of total fat and 240 calories in a quarter-pound patty (vs 80 mg cholesterol, 23 grams of total fat and 290 calories in a quarter-pound patty of conventional “80/20” ground beef from cows).
The original Impossible Burger provided a tasty meat-free alternative to the beef patty. The new version, The Impossible Burger 2.0, is said to be nearly indistinguishable from the real thing.
Or so they say. I would have to try it for myself. Unfortunately, it’s only available in the US, where it will be making its debut in almost 200 restaurants.
It certainly looks like a burger. Let’s find out how it compares to the real thing:
