If you’re the type of person who can’t help posting everything to Instagram, then planning a holiday somewhere pretty or visually interesting is probably the way to go.
How else will people know that you’re #LivingMyBestLife, #Wanderlust?
Luckily for you, we live in a world where ‘gramming’ everything is so commonplace that if you have the cash, you can hire people to babysit your Instagram account while you actually experience your holiday.
Also, to make sure you don’t waste your travel fund on aesthetically challenged destinations, Big 7 Travel has compiled a list of the most Instagrammable places in the world.
Turn off your phone camera and take a look at the top 10 most ‘gram-worthy’ travel destinations for 2019:
1. Australia
Despite being politically suspect, especially when it comes to race relations, and indisputably bad at Photoshop, Australia is the most Instagrammed and Instagrammable place in the world.
Australia scored top marks for its popular hashtag and geolocations on social media. It also impressed both Big 7 readers and our travel judging panel with its natural beauty and buzzy cities.
Sydney and Melbourne tend to get the most attention from tourists coming to Australia.
2. Hong Kong
Famous for its skylines and food scene, Hong Kong’s colourful city, mountains and parks are all very photogenic.
As a Special Administrative Region of China, Hong Kong is made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon Peninsula, the New Territories and the Outlying Islands.
So there’s plenty to work with.
3. Canada
Canada’s border is home to the Niagra Falls, and the rest of the country boasts vast wilderness and some interesting cities.
Canada comes in at third place thanks to its insanely beautiful scenery and cool cultural features.
Vancouver is surrounded by water yet close to the mountains and has world class art, restaurants and heaps of other attractions to keep you entertained.
Toronto is also known for some epic graffiti.
4. Indonesia
Judging by the post above, Indonesia is a great place to live your best #yogalife.
Indonesia is a Southeast Asian nation made up of thousands of volcanic islands, such as the beautiful island of Bali. You’ll find beaches, volcanoes, Komodo dragons and jungles sheltering elephants, orangutans and tigers.
I still want to know how people do yoga and photograph themselves at the same time. Getting the perfect posed shot doesn’t seem very zen.
5. South Africa
Nice! We made it into the top five prettiest places on the planet.
According to Memeburn, the hashtag #capetown features more than 8,6 million entries, #johannesburg features 1,6 million, while #durban features 1,5 million posts.
South Africa has dramatic scenery, fantastic hiking trails and deserted beaches that boast spectacular ocean views. What more could you ask for?
Cape Town is an Instagrammer’s dream location to visit: endless natural beauty and clifftop views, pastel pink neighbourhoods and turquoise waters.
#southafrica itself is mentioned in more than 13, 1 million uploads.
Fifth out of 192 countries. Not bad at all.
Just be sure to warn the fitfluencers coming to Cape Town that Lion’s Head is closed.
6. Maldives
The Maldives is a tropical nation in the Indian Ocean, made up of more than 1 000 coral islands.
It’s home to some of the world’s most luxurious hotel resorts, with white sandy beaches, underwater villas and restaurants and bright blue waters.
It does sound like paradise.
7. India
Still the most popular destination for people who are #spiritual while stereotyping the Indian people and their culture(s).
From Himalayan peaks to Indian Ocean coastline, India is an exhilarating country where on every corner you’ll find a new Instagram spot bursting full of colour and character.
Ancient mosques, the Taj Mahal, rich spices and cosmopolitan cities will very quickly win you over with their charm.
It is beautiful. Just be respectful. Not everyone you meet is “enlightened” or willing to go along with your hippy fantasy.
8. United States of America
The US might have the worst president in the world, but it still has a lot going for it visually.
Home to the Big Apple, the USA has a varied range of incredible sights to see. Think snowy mountains, dense pine forests, bustling metropolis cities and a creative food and drink scene.
It also has the Grand Canyon, which, I’ve heard, is quite spectacular.
9. Dubai
One of the most futuristic cities in the world, Dubai is a popular travel and work destination.
The high-flying city of the U.A.E, Dubai is one of the most glamourous destinations you’ll ever visit, and is particularly popular with Big 7 readers.
Burj Khalifa, an 830m-tall tower, dominates the skyscraper-filled skyline while traditional souks provide colourful photo opportunities.
It’s a good place to mix things up if you have too many nature shots.
10. Singapore
Finally, Singapore, a small island city-state off Southern Malaysia.
It’s a modern city with colourful buildings, futuristic bridges and a ‘cloud forest’.
It’s also a centre of tourism and a serious hub for travel in Asia. What more could you want from your next trip?
That’s the top 10. You can see the top 50 Instagrammable destinations here.
If you decide to visit one of these incredible locations, do yourself a favour and put the phone down for a minute.
You’d be surprised what you’ll experience when you aren’t picking out the perfect filter.
