Every now and then you have one of those days that restores your faith in humanity.
This is not one of those days.
Instead, I bring you the #CharcoalChallenge, the latest, and arguably most moronic, challenge to grab everyone’s attention on social media.
And believe me, it has competition for the top spot.
Here’s how it works. A couple of white people with beer-bellies (judging by the videos, it’s overwhelmingly white people with beer-bellies) take empty charcoal bags, put them over their heads, jump around, and then remove them to reveal faces covered in soot.
See for yourself:
Here’s the full version of one of the videos featured above, which was posted on Facebook.
Most videos are set to the Robbie Wessels’ song “Bobjan” – a song about a man who believes himself to be a baboon.
This has led to some dubbing it the “Bobjan Challenge”:
According to TimesLIVE and News24, the response to the videos has been divided, with some calling the challenge racist.
Surprisingly, when News24 tweeted out their story, most of the replies rubbished claims that the challenge is racist.
We do know one thing for sure – it’s completely pointless.
