The matric results are in, and the top performing schools in South Africa have been announced.
The top 10 schools which wrote the national senior certificate exam boasted an average of three distinctions per pupil. They also boast some of the highest school fees in the country.
The top-performing school in the country, with an impressive average of 5,3 distinctions per student, is located in our very own Cape Town.

A Business Insider South Africa comparison found that Herschel Girls’ School was the country’s top performing NSC school based on average distinctions (80% or more for a subject) per pupil.
Our data were cross-referenced with information provided by the career guidance and education site Gradesmatch.
Herschel Girls’ School achieved an average of 5.3 distinctions per pupil, followed by Springfield Convent Senior School with an average 4.1 of distinctions per pupil. Both are private schools.
Herschel is also the most expensive school on the list. If you want that top standard of education for your kid, be prepared to drop a cool R109 000 a year on tuition.
Bloemhof Hoërskool rounded out the top three. They also have the lowest school fees on the list, charging just R30 000 a year.
