The end of the year is in sight, and it cannot come soon enough.
Some peeps will be wrapping things up this Friday (ourselves included, as we must live the holiday), and like most Decembers, the year-end lists and recaps are everywhere.
That includes YouTube, who published their “YouTube Rewind 2018” video, titled “Everyone Controls Rewind”.
Whilst last year’s effort was generally well-received, it’s a very different story this time around.
RT with why that’s the case:
…many viewers are accusing YouTube of framing the video to attract advertisers instead of accurately reflecting on the past year.
PewDiePie owns the most subscribed YouTube channel and his absence from the video did not go unnoticed. He, unsurprisingly, made a YouTube video about it, in which he slammed the YouTubers featured in the video for praising the video-hosting service…
PewDiePie’s rivalry with Indian music channel T-Series was also missing from the rewind. The battle to ensure PewDiePie remains the most popular YouTube channel saw his loyal fans spend money on ads to encourage people to subscribe.
Logan Paul was also omitted, as was the boxing match between Paul and fellow YouTuber KSI, and pretty much everyone had some or other gripe.
Consider this – the most disliked YouTube video of all time is Justin Bieber’s ‘Baby’, which has just under 10 million thumbs down ratings on the video.
In just four days, the YouTube Rewind 2018 video already has (at the time of writing) 6,8 million dislikes, which means it’s in second position.
OK, so here’s the video:
Other than the obvious celebs, I can’t say I know or care about who many of these people are, but they’re making huge money so they won’t care about what I think, either.
