Would you trade the ability to produce children in exchange for the cheapest car in the world? In an attempt to curb high birth rates in India, a “competition” has just been launched: any male or female undergoing sterilisation procedures will stand the chance to win a Tata Nano. They are hoping to attract 30 000 entries – problem is, there is only one car.
But don’t worry, if you don’t win the car, you’ll still be in the running for these prizes:
With 1.21 billion people within its borders, India is on track to become the world’s most populous nation — already accounting for 17 percent of humans on the planet. By 2050, they will be 9 billion.
Sitaram Sharma, chief medical officer, said that they are confident that this idea will work well.
