Isn’t that surprising? A study of British recreational culture has been published, and it transpires that British people love nothing more than to listen to the wireless. Much more so than they enjoy reading, surfing the net, or even watching television.
That kind of thing is almost unfavorable in South Africa. Because the general quality of what we can get on radio and television is crap compared to the media that we can source on the net.
When was the last time you went out and bought an FM radio in the process of furnishing your house? Ten years ago? I’m sure it was somewhere around then, when CD players began their sad trek down the path of obsolescence. We don’t listen to CDs anymore, so the coincidental aside of the CD player – the FM radio – is increasingly scarce in our homes. And that speaks to demand. The quality of FM radio in South Africa is terrible, and so the demand for FM radios is low. People don’t want to torture themselves forever.
And the FM radio would have disappeared from cars a long time ago, too, if we didn’t have to endure the slow suicide of the daily traffic jam by anesthetizing ourselves with mindless dross. When was the last time you were excited to turn on your car radio? I can remember. I was 12. I didn’t even own the frigging car.
2oceansVibe Radio is bringing back an old South African pastime which is flourishing in Britain – listening to the radio. It’s flourishing in Britain because the content is great, and because people have a range of choice, via internet radio sets, which are replacing FM sets at a rapid rate. What’s the difference? The difference is the choice between 15 local channels, or 200 000, from all over the world. You can have one in South Africa, too, by the way.
And you can have choice in your car, too, by streaming 2oceansVibe Radio straight into your car’s soundsystem via your smartphone.
All you need is a 2oceansVibe Radio car kit, and an auxiliary output in your car’s radio face. When you’re not streaming internet radio via your smartphone, you can also use that aux output to play your iPod, iPhone, or similar life-improving device through your car’s soundsystem.
