Early yesterday morning, Mmamathe Makhekhe-Mokhuane, SARS’ Chief Officer for Digital Information Services and Technology, appeared on SABC News.
She was woefully under-prepared, evasive, rude and visibly incompetent, and video of the interview was shared far and wide.
We covered that here, in case you missed out – well worth a watch.
Many of us aren’t exactly firing on all cylinders early in the morning, so perhaps Makhekhe-Mokhuane would do better when, later in the day, she testified at the Nugent Commission of Inquiry into the demise of SARS.
She must have known she was being widely lampooned for her woeful performance that morning. Rather than do better when faced with questions by Judge Robert Nugent and the panel, though, she took a different route.
Here’s her response when questioned about her record of attending meetings:
Vague, and unclear that’s how the testimony of SARS IT chief Mmamathe #Makhekhe-Mokhuane is being described. It’s resulted in a heated exchange between her and Judge Robert Nugent. #SARSInquiry #eNCANow Courtesy #DStv403 pic.twitter.com/hLEp7mK93f

To sum that up – a big “f*ck you” to anybody who dares to question her. It’s the same technique used by the likes of Bathabile Dlamini and Faith Mutambi – lash out when questioned about their incompetence.
It gets worse. When questioned about comments she had made about some long-term SARS employees, she went off on a ramble about the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir:
Mmamathe Makhekhe-Mokhuane is the SARS IT chief – Asked about comments she made about people who had been at SARS for many years
– she responds about a Drakensberg boys choir. Dear South Africa you pay her over R250K a month for this pic.twitter.com/ZLpyYO7Gqn— CHERYL ZONDI✊✊ (@Allan_Tshuma) October 18, 2018
What the hell is going on?
The real kicker – whilst we cannot find official confirmation, many social media users have said that Makhekhe-Mokhuane earns in excess of R3 million a year in her role as SARS IT chief.
Honestly, I wouldn’t trust her to turn my laptop off and back on again.
I think I’m going for a nap – wake me up when this country reboots.
