There are things that keep South Africans up at night (the usual stress culprits), and then there are things that make our blood boil.
Just last week we saw an example of how dangerous South African taxis cruising along on the wrong side of the road can be, and anybody who spends any decent amount of time behind the wheel can speak of this firsthand.
Now a video has emerged showing a taxi driver and a Hyundai driver coming to blows in Fourways‚ Jozi, just before 8AM last Thursday morning, which was caught on video by Christiaan Diedericks.
Times LIVE reporting below:
In the first video‚ a minibus taxi driver drives into oncoming traffic‚ then tries to manoeuvre back into his lane. Unable to get back in‚ he blocks off a Hyundai.
A couple of metres behind him is another minibus taxi‚ whose driver pulls the same stunt. “While I was walking back [to my house]‚ the minibus taxi moved and wanted to pass the Hyundai‚ but tried to scratch the other guy’s car‚” Diedericks said.
After moving past the Hyundai‚ the minibus taxi driver pulled in front of Diedericks’ house after seeing him filming.
Here’s that first video:
Enter video two, where the Hyundai driver approached the door of the taxi driver. The Hyundai driver dishes out the first slap, and then the brawling begins:
Diedericks says that nobody was seriously injured. He also added that “he saw a second taxi driver approach and tried to intervene to stop the fight‚ but got caught up in the scuffle”.
“I live in this street and it’s a daily occurrence‚ where the guys (taxi drivers) drive past on the right-hand side… These guys (taxi drivers) just do what they want.”
It just seems like are all gatvol of how little is ever done to those who flout the rules of the road. In case you missed it, here’s a video from last week, showing biker Sean Nysschen dishing out some strong words to another taxi driving into oncoming traffic:
It has been reported that the taxi driver in the video above was traced by police and arrested, so maybe there’s some small satisfaction in that.
I wouldn’t advise everyone follows Sean’s lead, though, because not all taxi drivers are going to play ‘nice’.
