If you’ve ever attempted to have a Skype call with anyone over the age of 60, you understand the struggle.
Shouting into the microphone, putting their faces about four centimetres from the camera, endless ‘can you see me now?’ questions – thank goodness WhatsApp video call came along, and now they just have to stare at a phone.
Then again, people of all ages seem unaware that playing a voice note and holding the phone to your ear means you can listen to them in public.
Speaker phones are pretty straightforward, though, unless you happen to be the president of the United States of America.

He had invited a roomful of reporters and cameras into the Oval Office for a conversation with Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto about a new trade deal, which, for one painfully uncomfortable minute, was just a conversation he had with himself. In a scene not unlike what happens during most calls with grandparents, Trump struggles to to figure out if he’s got Nieto on the line, waging a small war on a piece of technology that’s been around since the 1950s.
