If it exists, there’s probably porn dedicated to it.

An ill-advised internet search will tell you that people are capable of infinite imagination, especially when it comes to getting off.

There are even folks out there who want to get off with Bigfoot, and American politician Leslie Cockburn, the Democrat running for an open house seat in Virginia, claims her opponent Denver Riggleman is one of them.

Cockburn tweeted the following on Monday:

My opponent Denver Riggleman, running mate of Corey Stewart, was caught on camera campaigning with a white supremacist. Now he has been exposed as a devotee of Bigfoot erotica. This is not what we need on Capitol Hill. pic.twitter.com/0eBvxFd6sG

That’s a lot to take in, so let’s break it down. Here’s Dan Savage for The Stranger:

Leslie Cockburn, a Democrat, is running against Denver Riggleman, a Republican, for an open U.S. House seat. Riggleman has refused to disavow Corey Stewart, the Neo-Confederate, not-so-crypto white supremacist who somehow managed to win the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate in Virginia. Stewart has been endorsed by Trump but he’s so far to the right—which is a cable-news-speak for “so openly and baldly f***** racist”—that the National Republican Senatorial Committee hasn’t endorsed him.

Cockburn gets it right calling Riggleman a white supremacist. She misses the mark a bit with her accusation that he’s just a Bigfoot erotica devotee – he pretty much invented the genre. The Washington Post reports that:

The most curious element of Riggleman’s background may be a recently-deleted Facebook author page appearing to promote a self-published book titled ‘The Mating Habits of Bigfoot and Why Women Want Him.’

Riggleman has responded to these accusations, saying that:

..he has no interest at all in Bigfoot erotica, and he characterized Cockburn’s accusation as ludicrous. “We’re stunned by it.”He said that he did write an “anthropological book sort of based on parody and satire,” which has been a running joke with “a bunch of military pals” for the past 14 years. The Bigfoot image that Cockburn grabbed from Instagram was drawn by an artist friend who told Riggleman, “This is the best way to present your book.”

Riggleman also makes it clear that although the book was just a bit of fun, he also doesn’t want to “alienate any Bigfoot voters”.

Overall a dark day for American politics, and an illuminating one for Sasquatch enthusiasts.
