Brace yourselves, Capetonians – Mother Nature is about to wreak havoc in the Mother City once again.
After a bout of heavy rain, snow and floods earlier this month, Cape Town has been enjoying a couple of fair-weather weeks.
However, you might want to break out the umbrellas, hot bevvies and blankets, because another spate of rainy weather is set to hit the province today.
Although that’s good news for our dam levels, which are steadily back on the rise, it’s not so great when the floods start rolling in on the streets.
Per a News24 report:
The SA Weather Service informed [the City of Cape Town’s Disaster Management] that the showers would hit the Cape Metro and Grabouw area from 04:00AM until 11:00AM.
As a result, the heavy downpours may cause flash and localised flooding that could affect homes and roads.
Well, what a way to end of the week, huh?
Then again, if we didn’t have the rain, we’d be stressing about the drought or the heat. Humans are just silly like that.
If you’re out and about today in the rain, make sure to plan your travel routes carefully in the event of roads being affected.
Also, if any weather-related emergencies occur, dial 021 480 7700 from a cellphone or 107 from a landline, and you’ll be directed to the city’s 107 call centre.
Tread carefully out there, friends.
