A few days after the successful rescue of the boys trapped in a cave, another dramatic rescue operation took place across the pond.
The Oregon Air National Guard’s CH-47 Chinook helicopter took to the skies on Friday, July 13, as it responded to the request for help to rescue a 27-year-old man stranded on a mountain.
Authorities said that the man had climbed up Mount Hood – the tallest mountain in the state of Oregon – during a bid to commit suicide.
The scoop from The Daily Mail:
The man, who has not been named, was said to have been on Mount Hood since Thursday [when he also called 911 after changing his mind] and had six rescuers with him when the Chinook arrived on the scene Friday at about 2:55PM.
Hovering in the air at an altitude of 11 000 feet (over 3 000 metres), the chopper began its lofty descent where the climbers and the rescue team were waiting for its arrival.
That’s when the pilot performed this special manoeuvre, which you can see in this video at about the 0:45 mark:
Elon Musk’s “kid-sized” submarine could never hold a candle to this.
The Chinook chopper delivered the climber to a baseball field in Welches, Oregon, after which he was transported to the hospital, according to the report.
The rescue itself was said to have taken just 32 minutes and four seconds from the time the helicopter departed, to the time it returned to the baseball field.
Quite a relief to see how well this situation played out, thanks to the brave crew involved in the rescue.
Plus, we got to witness an epic chopper stunt as a bonus.
