If you’re the owner of an iPhone or an iPad, I see bright things in your future.
The latest iOS 12, announced last month, will only be rolling out later this year. Good news, though – Apple has officially made a public beta version of the software update available for download.
Get on that, if you’re the type who likes to lead from the front, according to Mashable:
Users can try it out, familiarise themselves with its many new features, and help report any bugs that may have slipped through the cracks.
So far, the features look ridiculously good, barring some minor bugs that can be easily fixed.
Here’s what you can expect for your Apple device, once the official update comes through:
I’m especially digging the FaceTime upgrade, which sees the user appearing as an Animoji or Memoji during a call session. Seriously, this is the closest people can possibly get to being a cartoon version of themselves.
One of the standouts from the iOS 12 definitely has to be Apple’s new measure app – named Measure, naturally – which can measure the size of objects using your device’s camera:
It makes use of ARKit, Apple toolkit for developing AR-driven apps, and uses the iPhone’s camera to compute the dimensions of objects seen on the screen. Simply hold up your iPhone to an object, tap the endpoints of the thing you want to measure, and the app will figure out the measurements.
Here’s a test run:
Sweet. If you fancy yourself a crafty creative or an adept DIYer, this Measure app is right up your alley.
If you’re only now coming to your senses and joining the Apple army, or you want to check out the latest deals, drop by Digicape, South Africa’s largest independent Apple retailer, to play catch-up.
