Yesterday was a day of despair, tears and heartbreak for German football fans, and also a night of relief for Brazilian fans.
Oh, and Neymar behaved like a complete tosser again.
The Brazilian boasts one of the most impressive international goalscoring records ever, hitting the back of the net 56 times in 88 matches – that’s 0,64 goals a game.
For a point of comparison, Cristiano Ronaldo has 85 goals in 153 matches (0,54 goals a game) and Messi has 65 in 127 (0,51).
Neymar has plenty of time on his hands to go past Ronaldo’s record, because he is only 26, but for every glorious goal he scores, there’s a ridiculous injury antic to go with it.
Last night wasn’t his finest night in front of goal, but he did bust out a roll that might go down in history:

Narrator’s voice – but he wasn’t seriously hurt.
There’s a tune for that:
It’s been a great World Cup if you like play-acting but the Neymar Roll from the Brazil Serbia game is going to take some beating pic.twitter.com/NxK89pVnsh

Yes, someone gave it the Shooting Star meme treatment.
Almost as bad as Portugal’s Pepe.
This is why people who only watch football during World Cups roll their eyes. Billions of people watching, from every corner of the globe, and these blokes are happy to act like infants in the sandpit.
Neymar does have a little competition in the rolling department, but I think he just about pips this effort from earlier in the tournament:
