Fatigued learners couldn’t believe their luck when hearing the news today.
To all the overworked and swamped scholars in South Africa, we’d like to say please hang on a little bit longer – help is on the way! The education department has announced that students will now also get June 17 and August 8 off from school. This is due to the those dates’ “proximity to public holidays”.
Here’s the department spokesperson, Granville Whittle, on the matter:
This was finalised two years ago when the school calendar was published and public comments were invited at the time. It’s not a new decision. We haven’t changed the school calendar, and we haven’t lost time. This had been factored into the requirement that there should be between 195 and 200 teaching days a year.
There you go.
