Thursday, 5PM, Russia versus Saudi Arabia.
Sure, it’s not the most appetising World Cup opener ever, but football fans are gearing up for a cracker of a World Cup.
Friday, 8PM, Portugal versus Spain – there you go.
In anticipation for the big event, Beats by Dre rolled out a new ad campaign called ‘Made Defiant’, with none other than Guy Ritchie at the helm.
A quick write-up from AdAge before we roll the tape:
The film starts off telling a story about a young Russian boy who kicks a football in a park and potentially gets himself into trouble. We then move into four separate strands, focusing in on England’s Harry Kane, Germany’s Mesut Ozil, Benjamin Mendy from France and Brazil’s Neymar Jr. Each part of the “mix-tape” tells of how that player overcame obstacles in order to succeed, and the story wraps up by explaining that each player has inspired the young boy, who will be “the future of Russian football.”
…In characteristic Ritchie style, the film is narrated in a “cockney geezer” type accent by actor Paul Anderson (“Peaky Blinders”), which gives it a gangster-caper feel.
Nice one, bruv:
Those paying close attention might have noticed cameos by Serena Williams, Thierry Henry and Patrice Evra, as well appearances from Eden Hazard, David de Gea, Russia’s Fyodor Smolov, Brazilian Gabriel Jesus and Raúl Jiménez from Mexico.
Might get a few goosebumps going, but not ‘Siya Kolisi leading out the Boks’ goosebumps.
Also, if you’re after some Beats by Dre goodies, here’s the place to start.
