This looks like a real-life case of Failure to Launch, doesn’t it?
Except, y’know, it wasn’t Sarah Jessica Parker who came to the rescue – it was a sympathetic and thoroughly fed up court judge.
Over in New York on Tuesday, a judge ordered a stubborn 30-year-old man to move out of his parents’ house after they went to court to have him ejected, according to a report by TIME.
Michael Rotondo, who’s been rooming in his parents’ place for eight years, told State Supreme Court Justice Donald Greenwood that he was well aware that his parents wanted him to move out of the split-level ranch they share.
Yeah, the five eviction notices delivered from February onwards and an offer of R13 905 in cash money to help him find new digs pretty much makes it clear that Christina and Mark Rotondo wanted their son to get the hell out.
But the shaggy, sour apple of their eye insisted that, as a family member, he’s entitled to a six-month notice, reports CNN:
I just wanted a reasonable amount of time to vacate, with consideration to the fact that I was not really prepared to support myself at the time of the notices.
Bullshit, of course. And Greenwood thought the same as he presided over the case.
After the eviction notices and the money offer went ignored, Mark and Christina Rotondo brought the court case forward.
It was dramatic, to say the least.
Michael Rotondo, who not-so-wisely chose to represent himself, didn’t do himself any favours as he verbally sparred with Greenwood for 30 minutes in front of reporters.
At one point, he point-blank refused the judge’s request to work things out directly to his parents who were sitting nearby.
Per the report by TIME:
When Greenwood called Rotondo up to the bench, the long-haired and bearded son tried to bring the podium with him — noting it held the reporters’ microphones.
Not a bright idea, sonny boy.
Rotondo claimed that for the past eight years he “has never been expected to contribute to household expenses, or assisted with chores and the maintenance of the premises, and claims that this is simply a component of his living agreement”.
But Greenwood shot down his ballsy claims by siding with the parents:
I’m granting the eviction. I think the notice is sufficient.
Attaboy, Greenwood.
He instructed the parents’ lawyer to draft an eviction order. This, said attorney Anthony Adorante, would give Rotondo reasonable time to vacate.
But now Rotondo is planning to appeal the case:
It seems to me like I should be provided with, you know, 30 days or so, because generally you get 30 days after you’re found, you know, to have to vacate the premises. So I’m expecting something like that. But realistically, if that’s not the case, I don’t know.
*Sighs* Methinks it’s time for Matthew McConaughey – er, I mean, Michael Rotondo to just get out already.
