Virtually a week after two cash-in-transit vans were bombed in Boksburg, a group of armed men tried to rob a Porsche at the entrance to a shopping mall in Johannesburg.
Emphasis on “tried”.
According to Times LIVE, two armed men alighted from a light grey Volkswagen Polo which had pulled up behind the black Porsche as it stopped in front of the boom at one of Hyde Park Corner’s parking entrances. They tried to hijack the Porsche, trying to open the locked doors.
This is the result, as caught on CCTV footage:
Score one for Porsche and nada for the robbers.
The fail resulted in the armed men running down the ramp in search of their missing getaway vehicle. No was injured during the attempted robbery.
Except, maybe, the robbers’ pride.
Hyde Park Corner posted on the Craighall Residents Association’s Facebook group:
Our customer, who noticed something was wrong, reacted quickly and drove through the parking and parked on the third parking level and went into the mall. The suspects did not fire any shots nor were any valuables taken.
Give the driver a trophy or something, please.
At least he had the sense to not crash his Porsche into the boom as he made his get-away.
