It’s not often that I venture down the YouTube wormhole.
But for those of you who do, perhaps you’re already well-versed in some of the most popular channels to come out of South Africa.
Social Blade is a “statistics website that allows you to track YouTubers and measure growth across multiple social media platforms”, and even shows how much each channel earns every month, reports Business Insider SA.
Excluding channels where the creators no longer live in South Africa, as well as channels that share videos from TV, below are the top five according to actual subscriptions, with each channel’s most popular video for your perusal.
Heads up, the mix is weird AF:
5: CRASH driven – 104 156 488 views; 332 456 subscribers
4: Liezl Jayne Strydom – 24 444 289 views; 429 380 subscribers
3: Kruger Sightings – 634 377 151 views; 669 881 subscribers
2: Sixpackfactory.com – 195 080 775 views; 1 225 814 subscribers
1: Die Antwoord – 531 156 503 views; 1 797 558 subscribers
Do Die Antwoord even still reside in South Africa? Not while they’re turning heads at Paris Fashion Week, at least.
