Although the Winter Olympics involved sports many of us summer babies have never even heard of, we could all relate to the Olympians because, well, they’re still real people.

Right? Of course, which is why they were able to produce some highly relatable meme-worthy moments.

I guess for some folks that’s about as important as a gold medal, because the endorphin kick will come out about even.

Likes, validation, mmmmm.

Kim Eun-jung’s game face

Nicknamed the “Garlic Girls” because their main players come from the Uiseong region, which is known for being a major garlic producer in Korea, the South Korean women’s curling team not only won a silver for their efforts, but won the hearts of fans, too.

Well, at least one of them did.

Kim Eun-jung, the stoic skip (the name of a curling team’s captain), had a game face that didn’t change. A cross between poker and resting bitch, it quickly became a favourite talking point of the web:

The Hunger Games Fashionistas

Providing commentary for the skating events, Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir brought along their own sport: extravagant fashion.

Viewers quickly caught on that the pair’s influence was most-likely Hunger Games, and the hosts loved it.

After all, she took nine suitcases to PyeongChang, while he took 13:

The Super Mario Curler

Taking to the ice in a red outfit which included a red hat, US curler Matt Hamilton completed the look with a prominent moustache that made him look like our favourite Mario.

Enter, the meme explosion:

The Tongan’s Glistening Chest

Deserving a medal for his opening ceremony performance alone, Pita Taufatoufa wooed viewers when he made a shirtless – and well-oiled – debut at the 2016 Summer Games in Rio as the flag bearer for Tonga.

Fast-forward to this year’s Winter Games and he was back, becoming one of the rare athletes who compete in both Games.

Swapping out taekwondo for cross-country skiing (a sport he picked up less than a year ago), everyone was delighted that he was once again chosen as the flag bearer for Tonga.

Sure, he placed 114th in the cross-country skiing programme, but who cares?

Last, but not least at all, Alex Kang-chan Kam

Otherwise known as the Meme Lord, Alex won the Olympics when his double-sunglasses act got him to the front page of Reddit – which meant more to him that “olympic gold medals on this blessed day”.
