Fantastic Crowd Catch Earns 20-Year-Old Student R430 000 [Video]

20-year-old Mitchell Grimstone had himself a fine weekend, snaffling a superb one-handed catch that came with a very nice payday.

Everyone thinks they can hang onto a one-handed crowd catch under pressure, but few manage to pull it off.

There’s the pressure of the crowd tussling for the same catch, there’s the massive audience watching on TV, and in the case of the recent T20 international at Eden Park a cool NZD 50 000 (R430 000) as well.

That didn’t worry 20-year-old Mitchell Grimstone much, though, because he plucked a big hit out of the air like it was no real bother.

First up, the grab:

Hey Mitch, do you have any advice for Farhaan Berhardien?

As Stuff reports, it wasn’t even his favoured hand:

“I’m not left-handed,” he said.

“But somehow I put it there and it stuck, and then everyone was jumping over me.

“It still hasn’t sunk in really, it’s all a blur and it’s just amazing, the whole Tui thing and how they’ve done it”…

Grimstone is studying accounting at Victoria University in Wellington, which will stand him in good stead to make the most of his windfall.

He said he would “probably just invest it, be smart with it, not throw it away, because it’s a lot of money”.

Classic boring accountant, right?

Fair play to Ross Taylor, the man who struck the six, for giving Mitch his gloves and the match ball as well:

In case you’re keen for more crowd catches, here are the pick of the bunch from last year’s Ram Slam T20 competition:
