Hold it together, people.
Mirai Nagasu had a pretty decent Sunday, setting the Winter Olympics alight with a Triple Axel during her figure skating routine.
Like something you might see in Blades of Glory, but minus the really shoddy acting, she became the first ever American to pull off the move during an Olympic event.
Yes, the commentators were pretty damn stoked:
Holy cow, right?
If that one doesn’t work you can head over here.
More on why this matters via Elite Daily:
Every element of Nagasu’s free skate routine embodied grace and ease, with the climax being the triple axel she completely nailed. Only an Olympian could make that move look easy.
Despite it being one of the most difficult moves in all of figure skating, Nagasu knew that the triple axel was the best way to wow the judges…
“To nail that triple axel, I tripped a couple of times going into it because I was so nervous, but I had to tell myself, ‘no I’m gonna go for it, 100 percent, and not pull back,” she said.
Only seven women in history have ever managed the move, and only one American. That was Tonya Harding back in 1991 at a national championship.
From 55 seconds below:
Let’s just say the rest of Tonya’s career didn’t exactly go to plan.
We will finish with some slow-mo footage of a triple axel, and a little on what sets it apart from other moves:
High drama, but still not as entertaining as curling.
