Forgive us another story about the Super Bowl, but we have to talk about the ads.
So far today we’ve done Justin Timberlake’s disastrous halftime show, 10 of the most over the top Super Bowl rings, and topped it off with a look at why Michael Jackson’s 1993 halftime show will never be forgotten.
We have also covered Amazon’s excellent commercial, and had a look at Chris Pratt getting amped in a beer ad, so those won’t make our list.
Why does make the list? Well, we’ll start with Tide, who are riding the PR wave off the back of disturbed souls eating their Tide pods.
Not bad at all.
We did show you the fake trailer for the movie Dundee, which was actually a punt for Tourism Australia, but it’s worth watching the trailer that aired during the Super Bowl:
From out of left field was the NFL advertising itself, which is probably a good idea given that the whole ‘taking a knee’ debate has seriously affected viewership numbers.
It’s almost like some Americans can’t figure out that the athletes taking a knee aren’t pissing on the American flags and troops, but rather protesting a system that continually persecutes them, including through overt police brutality.
Anyway, here’s the NFL’s fun ad, with a little extra info via the Washington Post:
New York Giants teammates Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr. recreated the most memorable scene from “Dirty Dancing” after a touchdown, and we sat on the edge of our seats from the moment “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” started playing. Twitter tells us that jaws collectively dropped as Manning lifted Beckham into the air, outranking even Ryan Gosling’s recreation of the iconic move in “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” Well done, boys.
Soar like an eagle…
